The Winds of Change? The Snowball of Change?

My time magic is kicking up now, though my nesting partner had to point it out to me. Things are in motion...

• Besides fluctuating illness on the part of me
• ...and my nesting partner...
• we've just learned that we're going from full-time parents to 24/7 parents, as Kiddo's father is leaving the state in under six weeks.
• Nesting partner would also like us to refocus how we all spend time together before/during/after that transition
• ...and has asked me to refrain from unpaid projects for the rest of the year
• ...and dating for the same time period, though I think the odds were already pretty low there.
• Meanwhile, I have less than two weeks before my webhost contract expires. I'm not very keen to pay triple, so I'm likely going to buy a new domain
• ...and transfer everything over there
• ...which seems like a great time to get a new email address anyway
• ...and while I'm at it, de-Goggle everything I can?
• Oh yeah, and it wouldn't be a bad idea if I started aggressively de-cluttering, you know, just in case
• ...because it would be nice to move
• ...and/or get a passport
• ...before my driver's license expires early next year
• ...since there's a non-zero chance my name change will get revoked.

You can see how the priorities snowball quickly. This looks to be the biggest wave of change I've experienced since 2016, when my household first joined me the same time my grandfather was in memory care, two other major relationships were falling apart, and I was starting graduate school. Thinking real hard about making a to-do list here so I can check off stages in a low-sophistication text venue.

I'm with Hostinger and I am pretty much attached to their web-building platform (I also get referrals there and am in the waiting window after helping someone else build her site there). I just need to register a new domain and (try not to?) think about everything else while I'm at it.

I also tried to piecemeal a website from older interfaces a couple years ago and it did NOT go well!

That is a lot of changes coming up! I hope you get to roll with them gracefully. And you won’t know about the ID/name change thing until you try, so there’s not much point to borrowing trouble by worrying in advance of the facts. I know that if you want to get an appointment in January though, you should make the appointment for it now. Those wait times are as insane as possible to make things harder on people who might want to vote. 🤬🤬

If you need a paying gig as a coordinator for care or something at a retirement community, it occurs to me that they need competent people in those places who can roll with the emotional toll of end of life care? At the place my uncle currently is, turnover is very high, even though it’s one of the nicer places. The staff are either mentally disengaged or emotionally trying to deliberately not form attachments. It’s not a great way to take care of people. I don’t know that it’s your bag, but if you know someone whose bag that is, then pass the suggestion along, I guess?

There are very few full time jobs I could take (out of the house no less) that wouldn't cost me way more in emotions and wellness than they gain. Specific to Long-term care, the kind of role I'd be best at is usually filled by a social worker, which I am not. I made a very deliberate choice NOT to become a social worker when I went to graduate school, but I've run into that wall many many times since.

People think you need a specific kind of education to make caring about people easier? That’s … novel. 🤨 I find it hard to even think the thought that you would need more or different education to care about people, bc it only makes sense if people don’t know you at all. Which … I guess most people don’t know you, which is sad for them, and limiting for you.

It's a fascinating subversion, because Social Work can be one of the most radical fields of academia but is also steeped with neocolonialist white saviorism. But none of that is why I chose not to study it. I chose not to study it because it trains you how to work within existing systems and I didn't trust existing systems to endure very long by the time I graduated. I preferred to look at things big-picture, which everyone values but no one will pay for. It's fascinating, but fascination doesn't pay da bills!
